Speaker wire is often used with home theaters, digital audio and stereo speakers. Speaker wire is not rated for in-wall usage. How is it manufactured? Speaker wire is made from two different conductors. Both of these conductors are made from finely stranded copper, while only one of them is tinned. The other conductor is bare copper. They are made this way for several reasons. The most important reason is to distinguish polarity. Both conductors are also insulated with a translucent PVC jacket. This insulation is designed to be flexible which makes installation easy.
How do you use speaker wire? You start by choosing the proper gauge. This can be determined by figuring how long the wire will need to be. It’s a good idea to always add a few extra feet to leave room for error. This also keeps the run from becoming too tight. Once you know the length of the wire, you will need to consider the power requirements.
